How does Skin Needling work

It uses tiny, sterile needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. This stimulates the body’s natural healing process, promoting collagen production and improving the appearance of scars, fine lines, and texture. 
Who is Skin Needling for

This treatment is for anyone looking to boost collagen and elastin production. This process helps improve the
following skin conditions:

How does Skin Needling feel?

The sensation varies by needle depth, treatment area, and pain tolerance - superficial sessions feel like light tingling or sandpaper, while deeper treatments can feel like intense scratching.  Afterwards, the skin may feel tight, tender, or sunburned/windburned for 24–48 hours, with some redness, minor swelling, or pinpoint bleeding, but overall it’s generally described as uncomfortable yet tolerable.
Is there any downtime after Skin Needling?

The downtime after skin needling is usually minimal but depends on needle depth and treatment intensity. For superficial microneedling, most people have little to no downtime, maybe slight redness for a few hours. For deeper treatments, expect 24–48 hours of redness, mild swelling, and skin sensitivity, sometimes with flaking. Makeup can usually be worn after 24 hours once the skin has calmed, and normal activities can typically resume immediately. SPF must be applied diligently, especially in the fortnight following the treatment.
How often is Skin Needling recommended?

Frequency is dependent upon the goals, concerns and age of the client. We recommend spacing your micro needing sessions at least 4-6 weeks apart.

what to do before your Skin Needling treatment

Avoid unprotected sun exposure 48 hours before your treatment and avoid active ingredients like retinols or exfoliants 5 days before. 
what to do after your Skin Needling treatment

  • Avoid direct sun exposure for the following 2 weeks and be sure to apply SPF daily.  
  • Avoid heat such as hot showers, sauna’s, spas and exercise for 48 hours 
  • Avoid active ingredients like retinols or exfoliants for 5-7 days after treatment 
  • Avoid makeup for 24-48 hours and keep the skin clean 
  • Do not pick or scratch at the skin

Contraindications

Who is Skin Needling not for?

  • Recent sun burn
  • Light sensitising medications (please inform your therapist of any current medications)
  • Certain autoimmune diseases
  • Keloid or hypertrophic scarring
  • Active cold sores
  • Rosacea, dermatitis or psoriasis
  • Active acne or cystic acne
  • Poor wound healing or uncontrolled diabetes
  • Blood clotting disorder or blood thinners (this increases the risk of bruising and bleeding)
