Tixel at Sanctuary Skin Care

Tixel

Tixel is a non-invasive, fractional skin resurfacing treatment that uses controlled heat energy to improve skin texture, reduce wrinkles, treat acne scarring, and address various skin concerns. Skin appears firmer, smoother, and more rejuvenated as fine lines soften and texture improves. It feels tighter and refreshed, with a visibly lifted look.

What sets Tixel treatment apart from others in the resurfacing family is the way the energy is delivered. Rather than using light or laser, Tixel works through thermomechanical action: a heated titanium tip that makes brief, precise contact with the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production deep within the dermis. This makes it suitable for a broader range of skin types and sensitive areas than traditional laser treatments, while still delivering results comparable to more aggressive resurfacing options with significantly less downtime.

At Sanctuary Skin Care in Neutral Bay, Tixel is recommended as part of a considered skin strategy. Nothing is random, and nothing is rushed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Tixel work

Unlike traditional laser treatments, Tixel delivers energy through a thermomechanical action using a heated titanium plate rather than light-based energy. The plate makes brief, controlled contact with the skin, creating microscopic channels that trigger the skin's natural healing response. This stimulates new collagen and elastin production in the deeper layers of the dermis, progressively improving skin firmness, texture, and tone. Because energy is delivered mechanically rather than through light, tixel skin treatment is suitable for a broader range of skin types, including those that are not well suited to IPL or laser-based modalities.

For clients looking to address both resurfacing and structural lifting, Tixel is commonly combined with HIFU and BBL SkinTyte as part of a layered treatment plan at Sanctuary Skin Care.

Who is Tixel for

Tixel facial treatment is ideal for clients looking to address the visible signs of ageing, improve skin quality, or target specific concerns with a treatment that delivers real results with manageable downtime. It effectively treats:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Skin laxity and loss of firmness
  • Acne scarring
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Eye area concerns — including hooding and under-eye crepiness
  • Pigmentation and uneven tone
  • Stretch marks
  • Neck and décolletage

It suits most skin types and is particularly well suited to clients who want outcomes comparable to more aggressive resurfacing lasers such as Fraxel, CO2, or Halo, but with a shorter, more manageable recovery. A consultation at our clinic will confirm the appropriate treatment level for your skin.

How does Tixel feel?

Tixel treatment creates a brief, acute heat sensation (similar to a mild sunburn) as the titanium tip contacts the skin. Applying numbing cream before your session reduces discomfort to approximately 5 out of 10. Post-treatment, warmth and tingling in the skin may continue for 1–3 hours as the thermal response settles. Most clients find the sensation very manageable, particularly with numbing cream applied beforehand. Your clinician will guide you on the appropriate treatment intensity for your skin and tolerance.

Is there any downtime after Tixel?

Downtime varies depending on the treatment intensity selected. You can expect redness and swelling for 2–5 days, with skin gradually settling over the following week. At higher intensities, some minor surface crusting or bronzing of the skin may occur as the treated channels resolve, which is a normal part of the healing process and a sign that the skin is responding. Most clients return to normal activities and light makeup within a few days. Full results from each tixel skin treatment session continue to develop over 4–8 weeks as collagen remodelling progresses beneath the surface.

How often is Tixel recommended?

For most clients, an initial course of 3 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart is recommended, followed by maintenance sessions every 6–12 months to sustain and build on results. The exact protocol will depend on your skin concerns, goals, and how your skin responds after the first session. Your clinician will map this out clearly at your consultation. Results from tixel facial treatment are cumulative and typically continue to improve for several months after each session.

before + after care

what to do before your Tixel treatment

  • Avoid unprotected sun exposure, tanning beds, and fake tan for at least 2–4 weeks before your appointment
  • Apply SPF 50 daily in the weeks leading up to your tixel skin treatment to ensure your session can proceed safely

what to do after your Tixel treatment
  • Apply SPF 50 immediately and consistently. Sun protection is essential after any Tixel face treatment and non-negotiable during the healing period
  • Avoid unprotected sun exposure, tanning beds, and fake tan for 2–4 weeks post-treatment
  • Avoid heat for at least 48 hours! This includes but is not limited to hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and vigorous exercise.
  • Keep the skin barrier well supported with gentle, hydrating skincare during recovery. Avoid active ingredients such as retinoids, AHAs, and BHAs until the skin has fully settled
  • Avoid makeup directly on treated areas for the first 24–48 hours where possible
  • Follow your clinician's specific aftercare protocol; this may vary depending on the treatment intensity used
